William Whewell (1794 - 1866)
William Whewell (1794 - 1866) was an English scientist, Anglican priest, philosopher, theologian and historian of science. Whewell studied at Trinity College, Cambridge and later became fellow, tutor and master of the college. He is well known for inventing the word 'scientist' in 1833 to describe the new group of professional people engaged in scientific work.
