Hugh Walpole (1884 - 1941), was an English novelist. He studied at Cambridge University and then worked as a teacher before embarking on a career as a full time writer. Much of Walpole's work was hugely popular, however, he is especially well known for his work 'The Herries Chronicle', a family saga. He was knighted in 1937.
