Konstantin E Tsiolkovsky (1857 -1935) was a Russian rocket scientist and writer. As a child, Tsiolkovsky caught scarlet fever, became hard of hearing and was taught at home until he was16. He later worked as a mathematics teacher but also made calculations and wrote about many aspects of space travel and rocket propulsion. He is well known for his 1903 work 'The Exploration of Cosmic Space by Means of Reaction Devices'.
