Sara Teasdale (1884 - 1933) was born in St Louis, Missouri. The youngest child in the family, she was frail and sickly throughout her life and spent a lot of her childhood at home and around adults. She wrote her first poem when she was 15 and published her first collection of poems when she was 23. In 1914, Sara married her sweetheart but they divorced in 1929 and from then on she only lived for her poetry. A few years later, she caught chronic pneumonia and from then on, she no longer saw beauty in simple things. She committed suicide when she was 48.
