Adam Smith (1723 - 1790) was a Scottish moral philosopher. He was a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and a close friend of David Hume, who is one of the most important Western philosophers. Smith was one of the first people to study the development of industry and commerce and his work helped lead to the development of the discipline of Economics
