Carl Sagan (1934- 1996) was an American astronomer and astrobiologist.He studied physics, astronomy and astrophysics at the University of Chicago and later went on to teach at both Harvard and Cornell Universities. He became famous for writing popular science books and conceived the idea of adding an universal message that could be understood by extraterrestrial life to spaceships leaving the solar system.
