Bertrand Russell 1872 - 1970) was awarded the Nobel prize for Literature in 1950 for his "varied and significant writings in which he champions humanitarian ideals". He studied both mathematics and philosophy at Cambridge University and became a fellow of the Royal Society in 1908.
