Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926)
Rainer Maria Rilke (1875 - 1926) is considered to be one of modern Germany's greatest lyric poets. He is known as creator of the 'object poem' where he tried to evoke the essence of physical objects and 'the silence of their concentrated reality'. His most famous works are Duineser Elegien and Die Sonette an Orpheus, both published in 1823 and after which Rilke declared he had produced his best work as a writer.
