Charles Richet (1850 - 1935) won the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1913 for his work on anaphylaxis - severe and rapid systemic allergic reaction. This work led to a greater understanding of conditions such as hay fever and asthma, and helped to explain some occurances of sudden death from allergic reactions.
