Plato (c. 427 - 347 BC) was an ancient Greek philosopher. A student of Socrates, he was writer of philosophical dialogues, and founder of the Academy in Athens where he lectured. Unlike Socrates, Plato wrote down his philosophical views, leaving behind a considerable number of manuscripts covering many themes, from politics, ethics and metaphysics to epistemology.
