Thomas Love Peacock (1785-1866)
Thomas Love Peacock (1785-1866) was born in Dorset, England and was the son of a glass merchant. Although his formal schooling ended before he was a teenager, he was an avid reader and could read in five different languages. Peacock was a Romantic poet and also wrote many novels - though he was best known for his satirical prose. His characters were often subtle imitations of important men of his time. Peacock died in his library in 1866.
