Louis Pasteur (1822 - 1895) was a French microbiologist and chemist. He is well known for demonstrating how to prevent milk and wine from going sour, which came to be called pasteurisation. As well as this, Pasteur's experiments confirmed the germ theory of disease, and he later created the first vaccine for rabies. In his work as a chemist, he made many discoveries, most notably the asymmetry and chirality of crystals.
