Arthur William Edgar O'Shaughnessy (1844-1881) was born in London, England. At the age of 17, he got his first job as a transcriber at the British Museum and two years later started working in the natural history department where he specialised in ichthyology (the study of fish). But his real passion was for literature and he wrote poetry - he published three collections before he was 30. His poetry was not widely known during his lifetime, but became popular in the 20th Century, his most famous work being We are the Music-Makers which are the first few lines from his book Music and Moonlight.
