Karl Marx (1818 -1883) was a German philosopher and political economist. He is widely regarded as the most influential socialist thinker of the 19th century, and spent the latter part of his life in London -being buried in the Highgate Cemetery. Marx's most famous works are the 'Communist Manifesto' and 'Das Kapital'. His socialist thinking is based upon the theory of class struggle, and formed the basis of many Communist nations' ideologies, past and present.
