Arthur Kornberg (1918 - ) is an American biochemist who won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1959 after discovering the mechanisms in the biological synthesis of DNA. He is primarily interested in the chemistry of enzymes and nucleic acids which control and it was the isolation of the DNA polymerising enzyme, now known as DNA polymerase I, that led to his Nobel prize. He has also written the books 'For the Love of Enzymes: Odyssey of a Biochemist' and 'The Golden Helix: Inside Biotech Ventures'.
