John Keats (1795-1821) was was born in Moorfields in London. His parents died when he was still a child, and as a result he became particularly close to his two brothers. Originally, he studied at Guy's Hospital with the intention of becoming a Doctor; but gave up his studies after finding a vocation as a poet. Keats life was tragically short, and his entire reputation resides on a short period of seven years activity from about 1814-1821. This particular poem was written in 1816. Known as one of the major figures of the English Romantic movement; he was eventually laid low by tuberculosis and died in Italy while on a trip.
