Oliver Heaviside (1850 ? 1925) was an English electrical engineer, mathematician and physicist. He left school at the age of 16 and became a telegraph operator. During this period he taught himself about electromagnetism and electricity and used mathematics to develop theories about the telegraph transmission lines. He continued to study mathematics despite being set apart from the rest of the scientific community and later developed operational calculus.
