Lord Haldane (1856 -1928)
Lord Haldane (1856 -1928) was a British politician, lawyer and philosopher. After studying law in London, Haldane was called to the bar in 1879 and later was elected as a Member of Parliament for East Lothian. In1895 he went on to help found the London School of Economics. He was given a peerage in 1911 and eventually became Lord Chancellor, however in 1915 he was forced to resign after being accused of pro-German sympathies. When the Labour government was formed Haldane was recruited to serve once again as Lord Chancellor. He is well known for his philosophical work 'The Reign of Relativity' which dealt with the implications of the theory of relativity.
