Benjamin Franklin (1706 - 1790)
Benjamin Franklin (1706 - 1790) was a scientist, inventor and diplomat. He is well known for his discoveries and theories in the field of physics. In 1750 Franklin proposed an experiment which involved flying a kite into a storm to collect electrical charge. This experiment later proved that lightning was electricity which led him to invent the lightning rod. Franklin's other inventions were wide ranging, from bifocal glasses to the flexible urinary catheter.
