Edsger Dijkstra (1930 - 2002) was a Dutch computer scientist. He originally studied theoretical physics at Leiden University, however soon became interested in programming. Until his death, he held the Schlumberger Centennial Chair in Computer Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin.
