John Dewey (1859 - 1952) was an American psychologist and philosopher. He studied at John Hopkins University and later became a professor of philosophy at Columbia University. Well known as one of the founders of the philosophical school of Pragmatism, Dewey has also been described as the 'father of functional psychology'. He has many publications to his name, including his 1896 publication 'The Reflex Arc Concept in Psychology'.
