Erwin Chargaff (1905 - 2002)
Erwin Chargaff (1905 - 2002) was an Austrian-born biochemist. His discoveries helped lead to the discovery of the double helical structure of DNA. He moved to New York in 1935, to conduct research at the department of biochemistry at Columbia University. It was from here that Chargaff published his research on the composition of nucleic acids which helped Francis Crick and James D. Watson to deduce the double helical structure of DNA.
