Samuel Butler (1612-1680)
Samuel Butler (1612-1680) was born in Worcestershire, England to a farmer. He is best known for his poem 'Hudibras' which is a satire on puritanism inspired by the novel Don Quixote. The poem was published in three parts over a number of years, and was well received even at the time of publication. He died in 1680 in relatively modest circumstances, and is buried in a church in Covent Garden, London.
