Archimedes (c.287 BC ? 212 BC) was born in Syracuse, Sicily and is considered by some to be one of the greatest mathematicians in history. He is said to have discovered the principle of density and buoyancy while taking a bath. Apparently, he was so pleased with this discovery that he leapt out of the bath and into the street crying "Eureka!" without taking the time to dress. As well as a mathematician, he was also a physicist, engineer, astronomer, and philosopher.
