William Allingham (1824-1889)
William Allingham (1824 - 1889) was an Irish poet and a man of letters. The son of an English bank manager, he worked in the local custom house until he left to become a magazine sub-editor in 1870. Throughout his life, he published a few volumes of poems, and was known for his lyrical and descriptive poetry, often influenced by his country and the region where he lived.
