Life is an Arbitrary Thing OR Reflections on Song for Guy By Elton John
-It is a beautiful tune and very uplifting. I bet Guy's mum cried for a long time when she heard it the first few times. And probably still does if taken unawares by it. But in truth she would probably find it more comforting with the passage of time. Music is timeless, and that is comforting in itself. I doubt there is anything after death. We are atoms returned to atoms in my opinion. But in a sense that is enough. Life may not be everything, but it is all we have never the less. It marches on. To a sunny beat, most of the time.
The building that I currently work in, in Hammersmith, actually used to be Elton John's Old Management Company (not the same one that Guy delivered to though. That was in Soho). We still occasionally get fan letters for the man himself, saying how he changed their lives. How they love his music. But more commonly we get requests for him to donate to various charities that are obviously in need of some Kitsch Cash (in fact any cash I guess!). Two years ago we had a 'fan' visit the office who had especially made the trip from Holland. Nice chap. I couldn't sing for him though.
We have a signed Elton John photo left over from his management companies residence in our building. It takes pride of place attached to the door of the stationary cupboard. And is replete with devils horns, comedy moustache and something about Tom scribbled on it that have all been added at different times down the years.

Not sure if Elton ever truly loved Tom. Or why Elton was wearing red contact lenses for the picture AS WELL as his glasses? We will probably never know.
Just part of the arbitrary rhythm of life I guess.

Please Note - I am away for the next two weeks. So the next ramble will be on Friday 5th August.
(Just in time for me to have finished the latest Harry Potter book!) If you are still reading it than check out my ramble Harry Potter and the Mathematics of Doom where I attempted to predict how many pages it would have!

It could be your last...
There's nothing wrong with planning for the future but not at the expense of enjoying now.
How many people on those trains and the bus before those bombs went off were thinking about tommorrow I wonder.
