Ginseng - Stress Slayer Supreme!
-On a personal note I like to take Ginseng with Ginkgo Biloba as a nice combination of brain tonic and general feel good potion. Although I must say I only take ginseng occasionally when I feel like I need a bit of the extra zip that I know it will provide. Ginseng is odd in that if you feel fine and balanced then it does not seem to do much ('seem' being the operative word, because we still don't know enough about its actions to know what it is really up to); but that if you feel a bit drained then it does seem to have the ability to snap you back into a productive state. There is also the fact that many of the liquid preparations pickle the chopped root in a preserve of wine, and so you have a little alcohol hit as well to contend with (at least in the UK - I expect it is different in the US). I prefer the liquid over the tablets though, because firstly the effects are much quicker. Secondly the dose is higher (1250 mg as opposed to the tablets which are usually under 500mg) and thirdly I like the jolt that the small amount of alcohol gives to the system just when you need it. The brand I use is called Ortis (if you click on 'vitality' you will see it). I have no independent way of knowing how good it is, but it does seem to work. Overall, Ginseng is a great tonic for the mind, body and spirit, and whilst much of the science on it remains to be formalised I am confident that it is doing me good.
