2/ Griffin iTalk - iPod Voice Recorder - This allows you to record speeches, memos etc. It plugs into the top of the ipod. I bought one of these, but haven't really used it much. But it does work well. If you record speeches, memos, are a lecturer, student, or even a comic who wants to record his/her set. Then this is a great add-on.

3/ Remote Control - "Huh? - I thought this baby was going to live in my pocket. Why do I I need a remote control?" - Well, the problem is that you HAVE to have a case for the Ipod. Unless you want a scratched unviewable screen within a week of purchase, it is an absolute MUST. Plus, the ipod will likely reside in your pocket. So changing songs becomes a real chore after a while.

- Take out of Pocket.
- Remove from Case.
- Press Buttons.

Now, it's true that there are cases that you can access the controls directly. But still, constantly fiddling with the thing is a pain. AND anyyway, if you are on a train then this process also announces to the world - 'HEY! Look at me! I have an expensive electronic gadget. Please MUG ME!'

Whilst with a wireless remote control you can change tunes without taking your hand or your ipod out of your pocket! Very cool, and much safer.

Word of warning - Don't bother with the remote that you can buy directly off Apple. I have heard a lot of people say that it is very flimsy. And it is NOT wireless.

Here is a list of reviews of various wireless remotes that you can get. Buy one of those instead.

(I bought the Engineered Audio RemoteRemote2 Model for $40 and have been very happy with it.)

Bear in mind that these devices do use a very small charge from the ipod to power them. This is good because you don't need batteries. But it is worth unplugging it if you are going on a long journey, and want to get maximum battery life between re-charges. As having it plugged in does shave a couple of hours of use time off. No big deal if you can find a plug point to recharge it. But more of an issue if you are going on a 12 hour coach journey.

Personally, I have found the battery life of the ipod photo 60gb to be fine for everday use. I have never really measured how long it lasts (Apple says 15 hours); but it is plenty long enough for most user requirements.
