Wiley-Blackwell to relaunch InfoPOEMs with InfoRetriever

Evidence-based medicine resource will feature new content

Hoboken, NJ, November 27, 2007– Wiley-Blackwell, the scientific, technical, medical, and scholarly publishing business of John Wiley & Sons, Inc. (NYSE: JWa), (NYSE: JWb), today announced the relaunch in January 2008 of an enhanced version of its evidence-based medicine (EBM) content resource InfoPOEMs with InfoRetriever under the new name Essential Evidence Plus.

Essential Evidence Plus will continue to feature InfoPOEMs, the highly-regarded daily EBM content alerting service, and the robust EBM search application formerly known as InfoRetriever. The incorporation of two new content resources—EBM Guidelines and e-Essential Evidence—will greatly augment the existing product features and content and position the re-branded resource Essential Evidence Plus as a state-of-the-art content system facilitating EBM practice, increasing clinical efficiency at the point of care, and improving patient outcomes.

EBM Guidelines is produced by the Finnish Medical Society Duodecim and includes a concise, easy-to-use collection of more than 950 Practice Guidelines, more than 3,000 Evidence Summaries, and more than 1,000 images. “The Finnish Medical Society has long led advances in the implementation of EBM,” said Shawn Morton, Wiley-Blackwell’s Publishing Director for Medicine in the Americas. “EBM Guidelines is a key source of information for practitioners at the point of care and a powerful tool reflecting much clinical experience. This well-respected and high-grade source of EBM content fits perfectly with the scope and focus of Essential Evidence Plus.”

Wiley-Blackwell will add e-Essential Evidence to the Essential Evidence Plus suite during the first quarter of 2008. This resource is an innovative general medical reference providing highly relevant medical content in a highly structured, evidence-based format for general practitioners nurses and physician assistants providing first contact care. “e-Essential Evidence is a truly evidence-based reference, with content tightly integrated and hyperlinked to all of the resources in Essential Evidence Plus, including InfoPOEMs summaries and The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews Abstracts. Additionally we’ve also included in Essential Evidence Plus algorithms for common problems, thousands of interactive calculators and decision support tools, a visual expert system for diagnosing skin conditions, coding tools, and an extensive library of images,” said Dr. Mark Ebell, Editor-in-Chief of Essential Evidence Plus. “e-Essential Evidence is a groundbreaking new medical reference and will serve as the cornerstone for Essential Evidence Plus. I am pleased to participate in this exciting and cutting-edge project.”
