INFORMS congratulates members elected to National Academy of Engineering

The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS®) today congratulated INFORMS members who were elected to the National Academy of Engineering.
“This is a great honor for our esteemed colleagues and we salute their tremendous accomplishments,” INFORMS President Cynthia Barnhart of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology says. “This recognition by the National Academy of Engineering attests to the many diverse and high-impact contributions of operations researchers.”
INFORMS members inducted into the National Academy of Engineering are:
- Gerald G. Brown, distinguished professor of operations research, U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, who was recognized for contributions to large-scale optimization theory and its military and industrial applications.
- J. Michael Harrison, Adams Distinguished Professor of Management, Stanford University, Stanford, California, recognized for fundamental contributions to stochastic networks and financial engineering.
- David G. Luenberger, professor, department of management science and engineering, Stanford University, Stanford, California, recognized for contributions to control theory, optimization algorithms, and economic dynamics.
- Stephen M. Robinson, professor of industrial engineering and computer sciences, University of Wisconsin, Madison, recognized for fundamental contributions to the theory of nonlinear optimization and to military planning. Prof. Robinson currently serves on INFORMS’ board as Treasurer.
