OU achieves $10 million in stimulus grants for 33 projects on the Norman campus

The University of Oklahoma at Norman has received more than $10 million in research grants fromthree funding agencies as part of the federal stimulus program, bringing thetotal amount of stimulus funding received by OU researchers to $23 million. Thirty-three projects achieved stimulus fundingfor research ranging from archaeology to weather.

"The university has thoughtfully undertaken a systematic approach to matching areasof scholarly excellence to federal agency priorities. Through the receipt of meaningful funding,OU's intellectual leadership continues to ensure that Oklahoma innovationresonates nationally," according to Daniel Pullin, university vice presidentfor strategic planning and technology development.

The AmericanRecovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 provided the funding to the Department ofInterior, the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Healthfor research projects on the Norman campus.

"This significant funding from the stimulus bill is enabling graduate andundergraduate students, post-doctoral fellows and faculty to make progress on anumber of important research problems that will bring practical benefits toOklahoma and the nation. In fact, due inlarge part to stimulus funding, the total dollar amount of new grants receivedon the Norman Campus in the first three months of fiscal year 2010 is overtwo-thirds of the total for all 2009," according to Kelvin Droegemeier, vice president for research on theNorman campus.
