WASHINGTON – The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) Editorial Board has selected six PNAS papers for the 2008 Cozzarelli Prize, an award that recognizes the most outstanding contributions in each of the scientific disciplines represented by the National Academy of Sciences.

Papers receiving the Cozzarelli Prize were chosen from nearly 3,500 research articles published by PNAS in 2008 and represent the six broadly defined classes under which the National Academy of Sciences is organized.

The annual award acknowledges recently published papers that reflect scientific excellence and originality. The award was established in 2005 and renamed the Cozzarelli Prize in 2007 to honor late PNAS Editor-in-Chief Nicholas R. Cozzarelli. This year's awards will be presented at the PNAS Editorial Board Meeting on April 26, 2009, in Washington, D.C.
