Today marks the start of National Science Week in the UK. A love-fest of all things scientific which runs until the 21st March. I appreciate however that many of my readers are not UK based, and so I won't ramble on about the specifics of the weeks activities. I will instead focus here on a few thoughts and suggestions as to what is available on the internet in a science sense. So that anyone, where ever they happen to find themselves, at whatever time or date, can have their very own 'Internet Science Week'.

Forget science activities that require movement. Or mundane stuff like looking for health insurance quotes to protect you from a comet impact! Let's focus on stuff that you can do whilst sitting on your arse drinking coffee and eating doughnuts. In terms of true enjoyment of science, in my humble opinion, this is the only way to fly! So here is a suggestion list of seven web sites to visit for your own Internet Science Week.

Friday - http://www.firstscience.com

I know. I know. I am touch biased seeing as I am the editor of this site and put virtually all the content on here. But then, that doesn't stop it being good does it? Also, you guys are already here, and so I wanted to kick start your Internet Science Week with a no-brainer!

Your task for today is to have a proper look around the site. I designed it to be simply jam-packed with goodies for young, old, science boffin's and tea-break surfers alike. A few of the highlights are over 200 Science Articles on every conceivable subject. Over 150 Science and Nature Poems - because science is truly a passionate endeavour and science and art are in truth cosy bedfellows. A video history of the moon landing amongst other milestones. Over 2750 Science Facts and Trivia to help to make you say 'Really!!!' - Science News links updated DAILY - And then of course there are over 45 Science Editorials (er clue...you are here!) on any manner of subjects from Mars to drinking water to vegetarianism. And if all that wasn't enough there is fun stuff like games, crosswords, and over 350 Science Cartoons! So, although I may be biased I think it is fair to say that FirstScience.com is a great way to kick start an Internet Science Week!
