Independence Day

This being Independence Day in the good old US of A, and also bearing in mind that this week on FirstScience.com we have a whole emphasis on the essence of humanity, and what it is that makes us human. I thought I would have a break from rambling on, and instead allow you to compare and contrast two timeless and historical declarations side-by-side that pertain to establishing a philosophy and basis of how we as humans should live together.

One is fittingly the American Declaration of Independence, and the other is the French Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. It is sobering in these times when differences of opinion on certain matters seem to exist between the French and American governments, that turning to history at least, they have more in common then that which would set them apart.
