Sandcastle

By AKEnglish

molded by hands strong,
but with a loving touch
reaching for the sky
filled with the hues of the day
sunlight upon your face
as you create life, from another time and place

golden bronze....it stands tall
rounded corners, turrets and all
windows, into another world
of beauty and grace

Its life, is short lived
and soon will return, to where...it all began
and your hands, will let it slip away
for you know, it must be

windows to your soul, for all to see
creation of beauty, held within
so rare the heart beat of life
that is stored, in rooms of the heart

there shall always be sadness,
at the loss of beauty
but, within you, life grows
waiting, resting there for its rebirth,
for it must be

AKEnglish (Amber Kathleen) is a contributing editor of Dove Cottage and lives in the Windy City of Chicago. A transplanted southerner, she grew up in Alabama, of Irish and Native American background, but has spent most of her life in Chicago. As an only child, she spent many hours in a garden, roaming the countryside, and playing and daydreaming under a huge Willow Tree. About 4 years ago the need to write became overwhelming and would no longer stay hidden within. Her work comes easy, a word, a phrase, a place, or picture will take over and she writes. She has been told she wastes a God given talent working in the 9-5 world as an Executive Administrative Assistant.

AKEnglish has a new book of poetry coming out in December 2002 which you can order from here - Her main site is Windows of the Soul and she also actively contributes to DoveCottage.com
